Discover a Course of Adventure
Carnmoney was designed to be a member's course. You can play Carnmoney over and over and never get bored with the layout of the course. Variety is what makes Carnmoney great. Four sets of tees on each hole accommodate all levels of golfers. From the championship tees, the course plays at 6,882 yards and carries a slope rating of 132, one of the highest in Alberta. And from the forward set of tees, the course play 5,150 yards and carries a slope rating of 124, which is average in the province for the forward tees.
The Course
The inspiration behind the design of Carnmoney's layout goes back many years and across thousands of miles to the traditional British golf links. The term "links" generally refers to British golf courses situated on sandy dunes created along the coast by a receding ocean. An unqualified success, the dream of modern inland links has been expertly realized by the renowned and talented designer, Les Furber. Natural rolling hills and valley troughs have been intelligently utilized to give every hole on our 160-acre site the wind-swept, rugged appearance of a top-notch British course. These contours accentuate a rolling dunes effect through the use of pot bunkers, sand ridges, and sand waste areas. The resulting landscape resembles golf course features created over time by the forces of nature.
Furber has given golfers the ultimate prize: variety. Every round seems to offer up new differences and challenges. Holes run in every direction and the whole course is eminently walkable, thanks to subtle elevation changes. Throughout the rugged landscape, from tee to green, stretch calm ribbons of fairway. The playability of the golf course is found on level fairways between high dunes and water, with waste bunkers scattered in strategic locations.
Four sets of tees on every hole allow players of all skill levels and abilities to participate at the level which best suits their game. Well-contoured greens protected by numerous bunders and water hazards are designed to reward good shot making and provide artistic eye appeal to all golfers.
There is a total of 17 acres of lake area interconnected and flowing through the property over waterfalls. Fountains are used to create strategic playability on each nine holes, which are balanced in character and length. The golf course is an 18-hole, par 72 championship course, rated 73.6 from the back tees.
The finishing holes on each nine are very strong and the entire layout creates a tremendous magnetism and prestige suited to our very sophisticated and demanding membership.
Three top designers have rated the course no less than 9.5 out of a possible 10.

Carnmoney Scorecards
Carnmoney Standard Local Rules – Effective May 16, 2026
Play is governed by the Golf Canada Rules of Golf (effective January 2023), and, where applicable, by the following Local Rules and Terms of the Competition. Complete text of Local Rules may be found in the Golf Canada Official Guide to the Rules of Golf (effective January 2023).
Unless otherwise noted, the penalty for breach of a Local Rule is the General Penalty.
Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes
It is recommended that you put an identification mark on your golf ball.
In stroke play if you are unsure of a ruling, please play two balls, choose which ball will count and announce the choice to your marker before making a stroke and record both scores. Report the facts of the situation to the Committee before returning your scorecard. (Rule 20.1c).
1. Out of Bounds & Course Boundaries (Rule 18.2) - Defined by the line between the course-side points at ground level of white dots, lines, stakes, and posts of fences defining out of bounds. A ball is out of bounds when it is beyond any wall defining the boundary of the course.
2. Abnormal Course Conditions (including Obstructions) (Rule 16) - Ground Under Repair (Rule 16.1) includes:
a) Areas defined by white lines.
b) Flower Beds - Model Local Rule E-8 is in effect. All flower beds are no play zones (NPZ) that are treated as abnormal course conditions. Relief must be taken from interference by the no play zone under Rule 16.1f.
c) French drains - Model Local Rule F-1 is in effect. Any drainage ditches filled with stones, also known as French Drains, are defined as ground under repair.
d) Seams of Cut Turf - Model Local Rule F-7 is in effect. Interference exists if a player’s ball lies in or touches a seam of cut turf or a seam interferes with the player’s area of intended swing. However, interference does not exist if the seam only interferes with the player’s stance. All seams within the area of cut turf are treated as the same seam in taking relief.
e) Aeration Holes - Model Local Rule E-4 is in effect. If a player’s ball lies in or touches a recent aeration hole, relief may be taken under Rule 16.1.
f) Areas in bunkers where sand has been removed by the movement of water resulting in deep furrows through the sand are ground under repair.
g) Roads or paths surfaced with woodchips or mulch are immovable obstructions.
3. Immovable Obstructions Close to Putting Greens – Model Local Rule F-5.2 is in effect. For a ball in the general area, relief may be taken under Rule 16.1b when both the ball and obstruction lie in an area cut to fairway height or less. The ball must be within two club lengths of the obstruction, and the obstruction must be located:
a) On or within two club lengths of the putting green, and:
b) On the players line of play
4. Integral Objects - The following are integral objects from which free relief is not allowed:
a) The portion of wires, cables, wrappings, and other objects where they are closely attached to trees or other permanent objects.
b) Permanent artificial retaining walls and/or pilings, such as railways ties, artificial sod faces and rock walls, when located within penalty areas or which are adjacent to the edge of bunkers.
c) Bunker liners in their intended position. Interference by a liner with a player’s stance is deemed not to be, of itself, interference under this Rule.
5. Penalty Areas (Rule 17) - When a player’s ball lies in a penalty area, including when it is known or virtually certain to be in that penalty area even though not found, the player has these relief options, each for one penalty stroke:
a) The player may take relief under Rule 17.1 or
b) As an extra option, the player may drop the original ball or another ball in the dropping zone.
c) Provisional Ball for Ball in a Penalty Area on hole 18 only – Model Local Rule B-3
i) If a player does not know whether their ball is in the penalty area, the player may play a provisional ball under Rule 18.3, which is modified in this way:
In playing the provisional ball, the player may use the stroke-and-distance relief option (see Rule 17.1d(1)), the back-on-the-line relief option (see Rule 17.1d(2)) or, if it is a red penalty area, the lateral relief option (see Rule 17.1d(3)). If a dropping zone is available for this penalty area (see Model Local Rule E-1), the player may also use that relief option.
Once the player has played a provisional ball under this Local Rule, they may not use any further options under Rule 17.1 in relation to the original ball.
In deciding when that provisional ball becomes the player's ball in play or if it must or may be abandoned, Rule 18.3c(2) and 18.3c(3) apply except that:
(a) When Original Ball Is Found in Penalty Area Within Three-Minute Search Time. The player may choose either to:
• Continue to play the original ball as it lies in the penalty area, in which case the provisional ball must not be played. All strokes with that provisional ball before it was abandoned (including strokes made and any penalty strokes solely from playing that ball) do not count, or
• Continue to play the provisional ball in which case the original ball must not be played.
(b) When Original Ball Is Not Found Within Three-Minute Search Time or Is Known or Virtually Certain to Be in Penalty Area. The provisional ball becomes the player's ball in play.
6. Dropping Zones for Penalty Areas - Model Local Rule E-1.1 is in effect.
a) As an extra relief option for the penalty area on holes 6, 11, 13, and 17 adding one penalty stroke, a player may drop a ball in the dropping zone defined as being within one club-lengths of the drop area sign. If there is more than one dropping zone the player must use the nearest dropping zone not nearer the hole. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3.
b) As an extra relief option for the penalty area on hole 18 adding one penalty stroke, a player may drop a ball in the dropping zone defined as the closely mown area containing the Silver Teeing Area. The dropping zone is a relief area under Rule 14.3.
7. Team Competitions (Rule 24) –
a) Appointment of Advice Giver in Team Competitions
i) Each team may name their team captains or one other advice giver whom players on the team may ask for advice and receive advice during the round. The team must identify each advice giver to the Committee before any player on the team begins his or her round.
ii) The advice giver must not point out a line of play or walk on the putting green when the ball of a team player lies on the putting green.
b) Team Members in Same Group - Rule 10.2 is modified in this way:
i) Where two players from the same team are playing together in the same group, those players may ask for advice and receive advice from each other during the round.
8. Prompt Pace of Play – Carnmoney’s Pace of Play Policy is effect at all competitions. Note: Rule 5.6a (Unreasonable Delay of Play) is still applicable.
9. When Competition is Final – The competition is final when all scores have been validated in the scoring system and approved by the Committee or when the trophy has been presented to the winner.
